Welcome
I’m Jo and I thank you for finding your way here.
I write about the invisible emotional scripts we learn in childhood, and the tender courage it takes to unlearn them in our adult years.
This space is for those who grew up learning to be good, helpful, competent, calm, resilient, invisible, high-achieving, or emotionally attuned to everyone but themselves.
For the ones who shaped themselves around belonging. Who learned to earn approval, avoid conflict, or never be too much. Who mastered coping before they ever had a chance to simply be.
Here, we soften survival patterns and learn to hear our own voice again, slowly, gently and with deep self-compassion.
My first book is taking shape.
The Stories Beneath Our Stories
Many of us grow up inside invisible family patterns.
We learn how to feel loved, how to belong, which parts of us are welcome and which parts should be tucked quietly away.
Most of us never question these early scripts.
We carry them into adulthood believing they are our personality, our identity, or simply the way things are.
Until something insists we pause.
Exhaustion.
Confusion.
A breaking open.
A quiet knowing that the life we built was shaped more by coping than thriving.
This space is for those tender, brave moments where we begin to notice the old ways and gently lay them down.
An exploration of the subtle patterns we absorbed in childhood, and the courage it takes to untangle them in our adult years.
Not with force.
Not with blame.
Not with the pressure to fix ourselves.
But with honesty.
Curiosity.
And a soft kind of strength that grows when we stop abandoning the parts of us that once served the ambitions, desires and fears of other people.
I am not writing from the other side of all this.
I am writing from inside it, as a first-time author learning to be seen, to speak my truth, and to step out from behind the silent scripts that once kept me small.
This isn’t a lecture.
It’s a lantern.
A place to notice the inherited scripts we never knew we were carrying.
A place to practice writing new ones, with tenderness, courage, and deep self-compassion.
If you’re unlearning old patterns, rediscovering your voice, or simply curious about the quiet mechanisms that shape a life…
You’re in the right place.
We can walk this gently.
Here’s to remembering the child who learned the scripts written by others, and becoming the author of our own.
If something quiet stirs as you read, you’re welcome to wander a little further.
On Substack, I share stories drawn from real lives: my own, and the quiet truths women have trusted me with.
These are not biographies. They are emotional realities, shaped into characters so we can walk in someone else’s shoes and recognise parts of ourselves along the way.
